Hello, yes, hi I'm here! \o/ I'm Koree, by the way. Nice to meet you! I think I've seen your Rapunzel around on Bakerstreet.
First, thank you for taking care of this for us! I was going to reply but I got pulled into another convo in my last 15 minutes, then I had to jet off for work. Sorry about that! Just for transparency's sake I'm typically free on weekends (my time is split between chores, RP, and gaming in FFXIV for now), and every other week between my routes at my first job (so this week I have an extra mid-shift in the morning, but usually the next week I'm free). In case you need to reach me you can always PP me at 'sweettalker' as I have plurk mobile on my phone, annnnnd I also have an RP discord if you want that.
I'll join up with Lance in a minute, I just had a few quick questions for you to get the ball rolling:
1: Do you have a preference on what canon point you want to pull Lotor from? It'll help with coming up with ideas if I know if he's going to need to come from earlier or later in the series.
2: Do you have any other preferences in general? Canon-mash up's and AU's as opposed to jamjar settings, for instance? Personally I don't, so no worries there. I just want to make sure we stay in your comfort zone.
3: For your Rapunzel, same question as number one and two, actually! Would you rather keep her close to canon, or are you comfortable with/do you prefer branching out more into AU territory?
No problem at all! I wish I could offer a typical schedule of my own, but my work is super erratic. But you can also feel free to private Plurk me as needed; my account is "dolewhip". Now...!
1. For Lotor's canonpoint, I'm thinking some point after he kills his father and before the Kral Zera - or the equivalent of that point, depending on how AU things go. Which leads me to...
2. Canon mashups are a favorite of mine, but I also really love AUs. Jamjar settings are fine, too, they just go third in order of preference.
3. I usually play Rapunzel from early in canon, and I definitely love playing with her in canon mashup situations, although since I usually play her from a point before she's ever left her tower, I actually find jamjar settings can be really fun with her, too, as she gets to be so excited over everything new.
No worries. I get it. Right now my schedule is a little all over as I'm trying to get my sleep schedule back to a manageable point, but slowly but sure I'll get there!
1: Okay, then! Hmm... we should probably treat this as canon-divergent, then. I have a few ideas how that could work. Also regarding canon points, I'm still trying to decide which one I like best for Lance. Right now I'm leaning towards something late in the series. I can probably settle down with season 6 if that's alright with you? Right now I struggle with him earlier than that as more than a surface level portrayal, but getting there!
2: Okay, sweet! Definitely good to know.
3: Okay, I gotcha. I'll make another reply here to ramble about some ideas I have, then. I just need a couple minutes. :)
Ugh I'm so freaking mad I kept falling asleep so I missed the original notification when it came in!
Okay! Some of these setup's I'm proposing for either or both sides because... well one of them would be playing out two sides of the same coin, and could work for both your Rapunzel and mine from opposite perspectives.
I don't know how you feel about Gothel herself in the picture but the set up I used for my Rapunzel/Hunk ship was:
- Some Galra loyal to Zarkon discover this planet and start looking for useful resources, and instead discover this booming source of energy (quintessence maybe? ....... wait holy crap quintessence is a real word?!)
- Upon investigation they track the source down to a "primitive structure" in the middle of a forest near one of the planet's oceans. They send on-the-ground scouts to check it out.
- Meanwhile, Voltron has received word of Galra sightings in that area, probably from Matt, the coalition rebels, or the Blades of Malmora, or possibly a neighboring planet that thinks they're getting too close for comfort. They head out to investigate because:
1: For my side, the Galra getting their hands on a new power source could serve to cause a major problem with Lotor getting into a position of leadership, or in general just spell out bad news in the power struggle in progress.
2: For your side, the last thing we want is someone like the Flames of Purification getting their hands on any sort of tactical advantage. Plus the obvious "Galra enslaving more planets/corners of the galaxy BAD".
- Upon getting there they would probably find the Galra in the middle of trying to take this power source/abduct Rapunzel. How it plays out from there we can figure out, but essentially we had the team stage a rescue and Rapunzel was brought on board the castle of lions as a long-term live-in-guest.
It's not quite a jamjar, but it kind of is an open-jamjar as it allows for her to get out of the tower and see not just one new place, but a TON of new places, each one different from the last as the team travels from planet to planet. The setup presents a unique opportunity for Lotor/Lance to come to Rapunzel's rescue personally, or for one of the others to do it and Rapunzel to be initially suspicious about their motives because paranoia. I'm down for either one! Full disclosure: Lance is going to tease Lotor about them finally finding someone with hair more luxurious than his.
That one might be the better of the two for Rapunzel and Lotor if we're going with him still being part of the crew when she comes into the picture.
There is another possibility that jumps to mind! Team Voltron is traveling around in the Castle of Lions and during their travels, come by this planet that looks a LOT like Earth, even has a similar solar system, but the planets are the wrong colors maybe. They decide to check it out and realize it's more or less identical to Earth, which baffles them. They could decide to spend some time there since the Paladins are all home sick and it's an opportunity for Allura and Coran (and Romelle) to learn a little more about their world in a way, even if indirectly. I can especially see Lance being stoked about it, but also a little disappointed to be so close but so far. Then they discover the tower and the pretty girl there and suddenly he's much too preoccupied to care. He and a couple of the others could go snooping and he could get his ass handed to him similarly to Flynn. Depending on how much of canon you wanted to keep it could even play out in the same way with Lance getting jumped and tied to a chair, then trying to charm his way out (did that lizard just give me the stink eye? What is even happening right now?!) by bragging about how he could show her entire WORLDS in the red lion. He doesn't even mind being her captive because HELLO beautiful lady, here. Even if the hair thing is a little strange he can dig it! It suits her. Wow she's gorgeous.
LMAO I'm sorry for Lance's existence.
So there's a couple of set up ideas, what do you think?
Aw, no worries, I tend to crash earlier than most, anyway!
First of all, a Season 6 canonpoint for Lance sounds great! Go for it.
I'm really into that first idea, especially for the Lotor/Rapunzel ship, because it should make some really interesting changes in how things play out! Which leads me to a question I've been forgetting to ask: How did you see the relationship between them going, assuming you wanted to predetermine that at all? (Either way is fine with me, but if you had something in mind, like Lotor being redeemed or Rapunzel getting kind of corrupted or something else entirely, I definitely want to honor that!)
And then the Tangled-plot-with-a-Team-Voltron-twist idea for Rapunzel/Lance sounds so cute, not to mention amusing as heck. And lol, it's true, Lance is... Lance, but it's all great stuff! I think the idea of using an Earth-like planet is really clever, too.
And Gothel can totally be part of these things, in whatever capacity is needed. That's fine, lol, I forget to say!
As for direction, Iiiiii will admit I'd love to- to start at least -see Lotor get a redemption arc. I mean, I think we all knew what was coming in time but it still broke my heart. He also seems like the kind of guy that did mean well but just had some twisted ideas of how to achieve his goals. End result justifies the means, that sort of deal. It would be pretty interesting to see how he handled having an infinite source of pure quintessence right there within his reach, but not being able to act on it because he's still needing Allura's help to finish his ships. More than that, I think it'd be REALLY fascinating to see how he handled actually getting CLOSE to said source.
Like, with the alteans' he used he didn't know any of them personally, but we also see at the end of 6 that he wanted to spare Allura and the Paladins, had maybe come to consider them real allies and all that before Allura "forced" his hand. You know what I mean, though? He didn't have a personal connection to them so I don't think there was a real COST in his mind. It was like "crack a few eggs to make an omelette", but what if he had a personal investment in those eggs?
So the question is should we start those two up AT the rescue, or after it, and summarize how it went down?
Ahhh yes! I think that set up for Rapunzel and Lance will prove to be super super cute. I'm glad you like it!
Now I'm cracking up imagining Gothel reacting to Lance. Because you know she'd probably be rolling her eyes at him HARD and calling him dumb.
Yes, excellent! I couldn't agree more re: Lotor and a redemption arc, and I totally get what you mean about seeing how things play out with him becoming actually invested in one of his "tools".
Now, personally, I like the idea of a summary of the rescue and starting after the fact, but if you have another preference, that's totally fine!
Ahhh, YES GOOD. I'm hyped for this now. I have to run and do a shift for work but I'll only be an hour, then I'll be back in for a bit. Would you mind maybe starting us up, or would you like me to do it when I'm back?
I'm thinking maybe Rapunzel could be hanging out somewhere on the ship taking a break from exploring EVERYTHING. Observation deck, pool, or checking out that cool holo table, or the kitchen, or the hangar- uh.... maybe it'd be better if you pick. > >;; LOL
For the other one, do we wanna start with Lance coming to in the tower? LMAO
Ha, I can do my best to start something; sure thing! I'm not sure how deep it's going to be at the start, because I'm still doing my rewatch, BUT I'm really excited for this, and I'm happy to get the ball rolling!
God you just know that he's going to pop by her quarters one day and see that she's painted every inch of the space and it'll just be like HOW??? You've been here for two days!
Not to mention that with Lotor being so charming and cozying up with the Paladins- the obvious good guys here -she's going to be... so scathingly trusting. Oh God what is he even gonna do with that
ANYWAY, yes, absolutely I can! I'm also glad you had so much fun writing the starter. I know what you mean, I'm already looking forward to Lance's. HA HA HA HA this is gonna be great!
HOLY CRAP I KNEW IT! Thank you! SO MUCH!!! ;A; I didn't get a notification but I'd opened up his icon page earlier to look through them and take stock of the emotion range I had, and I was like "Man, all I have to offer right now are season 1 faces."
Imagine my surprise and confusion when I saw my upload bar was still open and my count said 15/100 lmao
YOU SHOULD LOOK AT HIS KEYWORDS because they accurately sum up the rest.
Someone on my timeline mentioned that notifs have been wonky, but yes, I was really surprised one never turned up. I had to check my purchase history to be sure I wasn't crazy since I know I haven't bought anything for him yet/just finished the first 15.
But yes, thank you, very much! That was very sweet!!!
